Sea Moss for Cholesterol: The Fiber Mechanism That Actually Works

Soluble fiber lowers LDL cholesterol — this is one of the most well-established findings in nutrition science, accepted by the FDA and documented across dozens of randomized trials. Sea moss carrageenan is a soluble fiber, and it operates on the same mechanism.

The Bile Acid Binding Mechanism

Your liver converts cholesterol into bile acids, which are released into the small intestine to help digest fats. Normally, about 95% of those bile acids get reabsorbed at the end of the small intestine and recycled. Soluble fiber interrupts this cycle — the fiber binds bile acids and carries them out in stool. Sea moss at 2 tablespoons/day provides roughly 2-4 grams of soluble fiber — a meaningful contribution when combined with dietary fiber from oats, beans, fruits and vegetables. Not sufficient as a standalone LDL intervention, but a genuine supporting element of a heart-healthy protocol.
